Deep ocean research · est. 2019
We chart the 93% of the ocean no light has ever reached. Every metre you scroll, our submersibles have already been.
−200 m · Twilight zone
Below 200 metres, photosynthesis ends and bioluminescence takes over. Our sensor arrays record light made by living things — 40 terabytes per dive.
−1,000 m · Midnight zone
DSV Lumen-3 holds a crew of three inside a 90 mm titanium sphere, rated to full ocean depth. Ballast, thrusters, and 14 hours of silence.
−4,000 m · Abyssal plain
Since 2019: 214 new species described, 61 hydrothermal vents mapped, and one cable-laying route redrawn to protect a coral field older than Rome.
−6,000 m · Hadal trench
We take two research partners per expedition. The next window opens in November.
